Hello! For those of you who do not know, I am currently in the B.Ed program at UVic, and we have to take a music course as a requirement.  I have never been musically inclined, especially with an instrument, but I have always wanted to learn. Which is great because one of our assignments is to … drum roll please … learn a new instrument!

I have decided to learn the ukulele because I think it would be a neat instrument to learn and because my partner already owns one. This blog will be about my progression, I plan to openly talk about my downfalls and about my victories. I took a video on day one of myself trying to learn four chords (A, C, F, G) and holding the instrument correctly. I will be honest it did not sound pretty, but how could it, I have never played the ukulele before.

This experience will be a challenge, but one that will remind me how it will feel to learn something completely new. I will be able to relate to the students and understand their struggles, but also celebrate their achievements. I have added a video a took from the first day, and looking at it now, a week later, I can already see that I was not strumming correctly.  Taking videos can be really helpful, they allow you to look back and see if any mistakes are being made, as well, it shows the progression of what has been learned.

So please, sit back and enjoy the show!
