Mid-October Update
I want to start by saying I am sorry because my plan was to make a video each week, but between being busy with schoolwork and working I have forgotten. So! Today, I took a mid-October progress, and I am glad I did it because it allowed me to take the time to practice even more, and really look at my fingering positioning and my transitions between chords.
Row Row Row Your Boat
This song is challenging because I am trying to learn a new strumming pattern (down, down, up, down). Although it is forgiving because I only have to transition from chord C to G7.
After watching this video I feel that I still have some work to do, and my goal next week is not to put practicing on the back burner but to make it a priority along with my other assignments.
(I also want to let you know that I am slightly singing… I am not brave enough to fully sing yet)
Kiss The Girl
I decided to learn this song because it was one of my favourite childhood songs! Little Mermaid was a great movie, and I really enjoy Sebastian the crab. This song is great because it challenges me with transitioning between three chords (C, G &F).
After filming the video I watched it, which although you can see I am struggling, I feel that it was really helpful to see what I need to work on. I need to work on changing chords F to G and singing while playing the chorus. I am kind of singing the whole song, but when I get to the chorus I find myself overwhelmed with changing chords quickly and singing.
How I feel…
To be honest learning a new instrument has been very challenging. I have never been musically inclined, so the idea of learning something foreign to me is scary. Now I still believe I sound very new to it, but I am excited about what I will learn if I keep practicing. I also think that going through the struggles of learning is a great reminder of how students will be feeling within a classroom. It is not always easy to learn something new, but it is very rewarding when you get it!
So I will remind myself to keep a growth mindset with this and the rest of my life because I know that I can do it!
